The 5th century statue of Vishnu Varah is an attraction in Karitalai –
Karitlai village is situated at a distance of 42 km from the district headquarters. There is a wonderful temple of Lord Vishnu Varah of the 5th century here. It is said that this village, situated in the caves of Vindhya mountain, was once counted among the big art centers of Kalchuri rulers. The antiquities found here are the pride of museums in the country and abroad. In this village, not only are the remains of 493 AD present, but the statues of Lord Ganesha, Vishnu-Varaha, Shiva-Parvati etc. seem to be speaking. Many inscriptions have been found here during excavation, which are still preserved in Raipur Museum, Rani Durgavati Museum, Jabalpur, Gwalior and other places. It is said about this place that in ancient times, the craftsmen used to live in the caves of Vindhya and display their art. It was from here that the art of Khajuraho was crafted. Inscriptions have been found of the construction of a temple of Vishnu Varaha by Bhatt Someshwar Dixit, minister of Kalchuri Maharaj Laxman Raj. A copper plate inscription of 493 AD has also been found here. It has been preserved by the Archaeological Department.
